Children, parents, and school staff have the opportunity to be supported by one of two school psychologists.
The children are used to seeing their psychologist as a regular school employee; this is particularly useful because they do not perceive talking to the psychologist as something inappropriate or feared ('I have to see a psychologist'). We arrange contact with the children mainly by being present among them (walking through the classrooms, talking in the corridors, saying hello in the canteen, sitting in družina, etc.), and by giving a presentation at the beginning of the year, where we introduce to the children in the class who the psychologist is, what support he or she can provide for them, where they can find him or her, and how to make an appointment. Parents are given contacts and can get to know the psychologist and his/her work in a personal meeting. Teachers are also encouraged to inform parents independently about the possibilities of using psychological services.
The most common areas of work of school psychologists
- Diagnosing and screening (e.g., enrolment in the first classes, screening of learning disorders, diagnosis of pupils' problems, determination of the social climate in the classroom, admission procedures, etc.)
- Consultation, counseling, and intervention work (e.g., care for integrated pupils, crisis intervention, classroom management, career counseling for pupils or their parents, etc.)
- Methodological work and educational activities (e.g., methodological assistance to class teachers, workshops for teachers, participation in staff meetings, coordination of counseling services, including with HR, talks, etc.)
